Tom Stanley Scholarship

Scholarships

WHO: One male & one female

High School Senior in Marshall County Schools or GMG

REQUIREMENTS: Attend an Iowa state university or Iowa community college

DUE: April 15 each year

​AMOUNT: $500






The Tom Stanley scholarship honors the memory of one of the founding club members who devoted his life to community involvement and helping kids be kids.  This scholarship is awarded to local students who are active in community service activities.



 Marshalltown Morning Optimist Club values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.

WHO: Students under 18 years of age

REQUIREMENTS: Prepare a 4- to 5- minute speech on a pre-assigned topic.

DUE: January 20

AMOUNT: Progressive








The contest is designed to assist youth in gaining public speaking experience and provide them with an opportunity to compete for a scholarship.  Students compete first at the local level for the chance to move on to the district, state, and national competitions.

REQUIREMENTS: Prepare a 700- to 800- word essay on a pre-assigned topic.
DUE: January 20

AMOUNT: $2,500 scholarship per Optimist District







The contest is designed to develop writing and critical thinking skills and provide them with an opportunity to compete for a scholarship.  Students compete first at the local level for the chance to win the district scholarship.
